Start a Reading Begins Chapter |
|
|
FIRST:
To start an Under the Roof Reading Begins chapter, e-mail us and tell us your contact information and the name of your community
NEXT:
-Connect with other community volunteers interested in improving literacy and empowering children
-Select economically emerging families with young children in your community
-Collect new and used books for early readers and reference books for high school students. Home libraries are comprised of old favorites and new discoveries. See our Favorite Books page for suggestions. We recommend positive, classic, time-tested books.
-Inspect the books. For Under the Roof Reading Begins, only use books in good condition without markings or scribbles. Use one of our bookplates to cover a previous owner's name.
-Direct your volunteers to build, buy, or ask for donations of bookcases.
-Protect the books while you are collecting at least 2 dozen books per family.
-Perfect the process for your community. Reach out to more families.
-Respect the privacy of your recipient families
-Expect to feel really good about empowering children
-Email us and we will send you the template for Under the Roof Reading Begins bookplates
FINALLY: Thank you for contributing to our great country. |
